An estimated Three Hundred and Twenty students participated in a poetry competition in the Corozal District. The poetry had to do with hurricanes and was coordinated through the Education and Warning Committee for District Emergency Center (DEC) Corozal. When it was all said and done the judges selected the winning poems and prizes were award to the top three candidates in each division. That being lower, middle and upper division.

Interestingly majority of the Schools partook in this competition. District Coordinator Mr. Willard Levy Sr. awarded the winning students their prizes at a ceremony held at the park in Corozal District.

The Keynote address was presented by Minister of Health and Chairperson of the Corozal Emergency Committee Hon. Pablo Marin. Minister Marin thanked the committee for their splendid and tireless commitment to NEMO. He also acknowledged the Corozal Volunteer Corp of NEMO.

The prizes where then presented by the Deputy Mayor to the winning candidates. It is expected that the competition will be bigger and better next year as students are already looking forward for the next competition.

The District Education Officer also commended all schools and teachers who took the time out to allow their students to partake in this Poetry Competition. She also expresses her joy over the only Kriol Poem that was presented. For that regard a consolation prize was presented to that student.
