Flood Bulletin #8

 

Ladyville, August 31, 2007-          Residual moisture continues to produce isolated showers over Belize. Showers will be isolated during the next 24 hours.

River levels on the Rio Hondo and New River peaked last night.  A slow recession is currently occurring in these watersheds.  Villages within the Rio Hondo are not expected to be adversely affected by the receding flood water, however homes near Caledonia Village will continue to be affected by the slowly receding flood waters.

On the Macal River levels are below spillway at Chalillo & Mollejon and the low level bridge at San Ignacio.  The low level bridge is under no threat of flooding.  On the Mopan River levels continue to rise slowly and are not expected to exceed the banks today.  Lagoon levels near Crooked Tree Village are rising.  No threat to the causeway is expected during the next 24 hours.

Flood levels on the Sibun River at Gracie Rock and Freetown continues to rise and flood levels are now expected to peak late Sunday.  The Mullins and Sittee Rivers have receded to normal levels while the South Stann Creek is currently above normal and in recession.   Flood levels on the North Stann Creek have receded to near normal levels.

The Golden Stream, Rio Grande, Moho and Temash Rivers are above normal and are receding slowly. 

This is final report on the august 29 flood event.

Citizens are reminded to continue to monitor the weather reports  on a regular  basis.
